Atari has unveiled its latest project, a baseball-style cap with built-in speakers called the Speakerhat. The Atari Speakerhat includes a pair of stereo speakers embedded in the bill of the cap and a built-in microphone. The company partnered with Audiowear to create a hat that can connect to smartphones, tablets, or computers via Bluetooth.
It can play music and accept phone calls. The technology inside the device consists of proprietary audio hardware, a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, a universal control button, and an LED indicator light. Atari’s Speakerhat will also support “Multiplayer Mode”, which allows multiple wearers to listen to a single audio stream at the same time.
The project is currently in beta and registration is open for early adopters.
Atari has unveiled its new gaming console, the Ataribox. According to a report by The Verge, the console was shown off to fans in an email. The Ataribox is inspired by the design of the Atari 2600, and includes SD card support, an HDMI port, and four USB ports.
Two versions of the console will be available: one in wood colours, and one with a black/red finish. The report did not detail what games will be available on the Atari box, but it is speculated the console will let users play classic titles in the same way the new NES Classic does. Pricing, specifications, and a release date were not detailed.

Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said the company is working on a new gaming console. Speaking to VentureBeat, Chesnais said Atari was “back in the hardware business” and the company’s upcoming gaming console would be based on PC technology. This follows a recent teaser video published by Atari for a product named the Ataribox.
Chesnais confirmed that the video’s title – “First look: A brand new Atari product. Years in the making.” – pointed towards the upcoming release of a new gaming console. Atari is reportedly still working on the console’s design and said the product will be revealed at a later date.
