Google upgrades Android instant apps

Google has updated its instant app[1] programming kit for developers. Android Instant Apps SDK 1.1 lets developers give users configurations that only target specific device profiles based on the display, chip architecture, and language. “We currently support configuration APKs for display density, CPU architecture (ABI), and language.

With these, we have seen an average reduction of 10% in the size of the binaries loaded,” said Google.

On Android Oreo, the internal storage of the instant version of the app is also available to the installed version of the app.

“With this release of the SDK, we are enabling this functionality on older versions of the Android Framework, including Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat devices.”
