SABC executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng wants to meet with the producers of local soap 7de Laan as part of contract negotiations with the public broadcaster to renew the show – a move which could see the Afrikaans favourite not air on Monday. According to a report by Channel24, a new contract with 7de Laan’s producers will “definitely be concluded”, but uncertainty remains over whether the show will be broadcast this week. “The SABC once dragged its feet for months to sign new contracts for its number-one-rated show on SABC 2, Muvhango,” stated the report.
7de Laan is currently the seventh-most-watched show in terms of SABC 2 viewership. A new contract for the show was reportedly signed on Friday in a “rush”, after Danie Odendaal Productions informed the SABC it will withhold new episodes until a new deal was concluded. Motsoeneng will reportedly meet with the producers on Monday morning to discuss the show going forward.
The SABC did not respond to questions on the matter.
