Boston Networks, has secured a significant contract to design and deliver an advanced intelligent network cabling solution for Ayrshire Colleges new campus in Kilmarnock1. The network will support the Colleges complete data and voice requirements and intelligent building2 applications, including IP CCTV3 and IP Access Control4, to provide the college with a high performance communications network and modern security solution platform. Currently under construction by the C3 consortium for Ayrshire College, the 53m campus is the single largest public sector investment the town has ever seen. The new site, which was gifted to the College by Diageo, will consolidate the Colleges Kilmarnock campus into one single and accessible town centre location, bringing new opportunities to both the students and the wider community. Once open the new campus will accommodate 5500 full and part time students and will include a number of sector leading facilities for sport and science, hospitality, technology and engineering, as well as a health and wellbeing centre.
Further benefits to the wider community include the opening of a restaurant, bar, caf , and 5-a-side football pitches, all of which will be open to the public. Work started on the campus in June 2014, with completion scheduled for spring 2016 and the facility is set to open at the start of the new term in September 2016 taking just three years from design to delivery. Sustainability was a critical element of the overall design and build, resulting in the new campus achieving a BREEAM5 outstanding rating at the design stage the highest level award which has only been granted to four other buildings in the Scottish education sector. Boston Networks will deploy over 200km of Shielded Category 6A cabling and a future proof Air Blown Fibre optic solution to create a high performance, robust and secure intelligent network that will deliver seamless communications on campus, and support the building service solutions.
Commenting on the award, Paul Goodbrand, Operations Director said:
