Superfast Broadband has reached another 1,260 households and businesses across South Northamptonshire during 2016. South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) is working in partnership with Superfast Northamptonshire, a scheme which is being managed by Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) and aims to increase coverage across the county to 94 per cent by the end of 2017. As a result of the phase two rollout in the district this year, a further six areas have gained coverage including Brafield-on-the-Green, Denton, Horton, Piddington, Syresham and Whitfield. Cllr Stephen Clarke, SNC’s portfolio holder for economic development, regeneration and housing, said: “This latest stage of the Superfast Broadband Project is part of the council’s overall strategy to ensure that the district continues to be one of the best places to live, work or build a business in the UK. “Enhanced digital connectivity will improve the productivity of businesses and help to build economic growth in more rural communities, transforming the prospects for those who live there. I am delighted that phase three is about to start as it will deliver improved broadband services to seven more villages in South Northamptonshire.”

To ensure the district becomes connected to Superfast Broadband as quickly as possible, SNC has agreed a financial contribution of ?250,000 to the Superfast Broadband rollout, including some of the hardest-to-reach areas and over 60 business parks in South Northamptonshire. Another area of the district to benefit in the last 12 months has been Grange Park, with a rollout across 1,410 premises, completed three months ahead of schedule with the help of an additional financial contribution of ?169,000 from SNC. The success of this prompted a Ministerial visit to Grange Park to showcase the benefits being felt by pupils at the local Woodlands Primary School as well as the wider community. Planning for phase three of the project is currently underway and over the next few months the district will see additional roll-out of Superfast Broadband across Eydon, Astcote, Eastcote, Cold Higham, Silverstone, Castle Ashby and Yardley Hastings.
