Free event of stargazing at Glentrool

A friendly family event, a free stargazing evening, is being organised as part of the British Science Week on 12th March. One will have the opportunity to learn more about the moon, the stars and the solar system in this event being led by one of the Biosphere Dark Sky Rangers, Elizabeth Tindal. The event will be hosted at the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere there. It will be also be at Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park. Elizabeth Tindal will be helping everyone to get a good look with her astro binoculars at the new crescent shaped moon, besides the dark sky filled with stars to gaze. There will be a chance to discuss about stars and the importance of Earth in the Universe. A small fire will help to bake some damper bread or toast marshmallows. Those interested in joining the free event1 should wear warm clothing and can meet at 7:00pm at the premises of Glentrool Old School, Glen Trool, Dumfries and Galloway. LYNCHBURG DISTRICT TRAFFIC ALERT
January 31-February 6, 2016

LYNCHBURG Highway work requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting. Traffic may be restricted.

Amherst County:
Route 501/130 (Snowden) Traffic control/flaggers in use. Expect delays. End: 4/21/17.

Appomattox County: None

Buckingham County:
Route 20 over Slate River Traffic delays expected during bridge replacement and construction of approaches. Estimated completion December 2017.
Andersonville AHQ- Crews will boom axe.
Various locations Crews will make surface repairs and respond to customer requests.

Campbell County:
Route 643 over Falling River Traffic will be turned onto new structure. Traffic control devices/flaggers in use. Expect delays.
Route 701 over Hills Creek (696-699) Road closed, detour in place through 4/29/16 for structure replacement. Detour using Routes 696 and 699.

Charlotte County:
Route 638 over Little Cub Creek Road closed Jan.

4 through April 8 for structure replacement. Detour in place using Routes 630, 629, and 628.
Various Crews will make surface repairs, work shoulders, cut brush/boom axe and respond to customers.

Cumberland County:
Various locations Crews will work surfaces, cut brush and respond to customers.

Halifax County:
Route 691 over Tobey Creek(Rt 659/658 intersection) Road closed Dec.

7-March 4 for structure replacement. Detour in place via Routes 659, 662 and 659.
Bethel AHQ Crews will clean around pipe.
Bethel and Volens AHQ Crews will apply stone to shoulders.
Cluster Springs and Volens AHQ Crews will boom axe.
Various Crews will make surface repairs and respond to customer requests.

Lynchburg:
Route 29/460 Access Management Motorists should be alert to presence of construction traffic entering and exiting roadway beginning in early February. Use caution.

Nelson County:
Route 29 southbound, near Rte.

641 Pipe jacking may result in lane closures/delays.

Pittsylvania County:
Routes 41 and 57, Rondo AHQ Crews will boom axe.
Route 726 Construction underway. Signs/traffic control devices in place. Est.comp-4/29/16.
Route 1530 (Hickory Forest Rd) Crews will install a temporary vehicle crossing.
Brosville AHQ Crews will mow storm water basins.
Gretna AHQ Crews will boom axe and work low water bridges.
Gretna and Rondo AHQ Crews will clean debris.
Kentuck AHQ Crews will make shoulder repairs on secondary routes and boom axe.
Mt.

Airy AHQ Crews will place stone at mailboxes and driveways, repair shoulders and boom axe.
Various Crews will work surfaces and respond to customers.

Prince Edward County:
Route 632 over Bush River Road closed for structure replacement. Detour in place using Routes 633, 15, 647and 630. Route 632 will be closed between the intersection of Route 633 and Route 630.
Various routes Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, and respond to customers.

District-wide activities:
Bridge and guardrail maintenance Crews will perform bridge/guardrail maintenance.
Bridge-mounted signs Foundation work underway.

Traffic control devices will assist motorists.
Pavement markings Contractors are applying permanent pavement markings districtwide.
