Direct Save Telecom offers UK's cheapest broadband deal at £17.95 a month
A smaller player is rising up the best buy broadband tables, particularly for those on a low budget. Direct Save Telecom, which pitches itself as a budget-friendly alternative to the better-known brands such as BT, Sky and Virgin, is now offering a broadband deal at GBP17.95 per month for 12 months. That is pretty cheap and is currently the lowest priced broadband deal on the market.
It may be especially attractive to those with low credit scores as the provider doesn’t conduct credit checks.
Direct Save Broadband Unlimited Plus + Calls
- Pay 1st month’s bill today
- Free budget-range router
- Pay for the calls you use
This may make it easier to get this offer and build up your rating and payment history compared with others who may not accept applicants with a poor credit rating. However it is worth noting that it scores low for customer service and Ofcom is currently investigating its debt management practices. Only available to new customers, you can get speeds of up to 17Mbps and unlimited downloads.
You will receive a free wireless router and there is no setup cost or line rental to pay. It reverts to a 28-day rolling agreement at the end of the deal priced at GBP24.95 per month. The offer works out at 5p cheaper each month than the next best deal from Sky.

Unlike others, Sky also discloses its average broadband speed, currently 11MB on this package.

- Pay set-up cost today
- Free Sky Q Hub router
There is also a GBP19.95 setup cost to add to the mix and it moves to GBP28.99 at the end of the deal. This deal would cost GBP235.95 over 12 months once you include the monthly charge and setup costs. In comparison, the Direct Save Telecom deal works out at GBP215.40 over the same period.
That is a GBP20.55 difference, but Sky can also challenge that as its deal offers a GBP50 prepaid MasterCard which you’ll have to claim on Sky’s website within 90 days of your broadband being activated. Sky customers also get access to 20,000 wi-fi hotspots. The Sky deal is only around for two more days though so you will need to be quick if you’re interested.
These deals are good for those in need of broadband on a low budget but the speeds are pretty slow. It may be worth stretching to a bit more each month if you want faster internet. For example, Vodafone’s Unlimited Fibre 38 broadband deal has speeds of up to 38Mbps, unlimited downloads and no setup costs for GBP20 a month on a 18-month contract.
