SoftBank to buy chunk of Uber

Uber has entered an agreement with a consortium led by SoftBank and Dragoneer for a potential investment. “We believe this agreement is a strong vote of confidence in Uber’s long-term potential,” it said. “Upon closing, it will help fuel our investments in technology and our continued expansion at home and abroad, while strengthening our corporate governance.”

Uber has not provided details about the SoftBank-led investment, but according to TechCrunch[1], the investment will amount to £1 billion.

The same consortium also plans to purchase £9 billion in Uber shares from employees and shareholders.

This means the SoftBank and Dragoneer consortium may end up owning around 14% of Uber.
