68.5% of Kodi users are pirates – MPAA

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has stated that 68.5% of all Kodi users are pirates of movies, TV shows, and other media. TorrentFreak[1] reported that the MPAA made the statement during a meeting of the Copyright Alliance. It said it estimates there are 38 million users of Kodi in the world, of which 26 million have piracy add-ons installed.

The statement follows a report from Sandvine which found that 6.5% of households in North America are communicating with known TV piracy services.

“This translates to seven million subscribers and many more potential viewers,” stated the report.

Netflix has also raised concerns about pirate streaming services, and recently filed court papers[2] against Tickbox TV – the maker of a Kodi-powered streaming device.
