Vuyani Jarana leaves Vodacom to become SAA CEO

Vuyani Jarana, head of Vodacom’s enterprise division, has been appointed as the new CEO of SAA. News24 reported[1] that there was speculation Jarana had been earmarked for the position, and will be SAA’s first permanent CEO since November 2015. Jarana was previously chief operating officer at Vodacom before heading up the enterprise division.

The Sunday Times reported in June that SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni attempted to halt an SAA board meeting aimed at approving Jarana’s nomination, as she wanted a different candidate placed.

SAA has faced severe financial pressure in recent years, and continues to be a burden on the state’s coffers.
