The Valkyrie Challenge Counter-Strike Invitational – Photos

While many South Africans were screaming at the Lions vs Crusaders game on Saturday, CS:GO gamers were enjoying an afternoon of professional Counter-Strike. Tech Girl, in partnership with Evetech and Mettlestate, held the first Valkyrie Challenge at Evetech’s gaming arena in Centurion. The event featured Energy Finesse and Amaryllis Gaming, which battled it out for a R50,000 cash prize.

Tech Girl’s Sam Wright, the organiser of the Valkyrie Challenge, said she put the all-female gaming event together following the success of a casual female-focused event held at The Nexus earlier this year. “We were fully booked within 24 hours of announcing the event. Seeing so many ladies gaming and so interested in trying new games as well as eSports was overwhelming,” said Wright.

“We had over 150 ladies in attendance and many requests for more events,” said Wright. Wright said there is tremendous opportunity for all-female eSports gamers locally and internationally.
