Music piracy has helped our popularity – Def Leppard
Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell told Ultimate Classic Rock that music piracy helped grow its popularity with a new, younger audience. “In recent years, we’ve been really fortunate that we’ve seen this new surge in our popularity,” Campbell said. “For the most part, that’s fueled by younger people coming to the shows.” Campbell said he believes this is the upside of music piracy.
Although musicians complain they can’t sell records anymore, for bands like Def Leppard there is a silver lining — being able to reach a whole new audience who then attend live shows. “It’s been fantastic. There’s a whole new energy around Leppard, in fact.
I think we’re playing better than we ever have,” Campbell said.
