Giphy to trial sponsored GIFs

Animated GIF search engine Giphy is going to test sponsored images as a way to bring in revenue, TechCrunch reported[1]. Citing a source, the report stated that the sponsored GIF trial will run in messaging services that Giphy has partnerships with. Searching for an animated image in messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram may result in a sponsored GIF being shown in the app’s search tab.

TechCrunch reported that Giphy sees 200 million daily active users between its API and website, with around 250 million monthly active users on the website as well as Giphy’s integrated services.

No timeline for the trial has been revealed.
