Broadband deal of the week: BT Unlimited 17Mb, 12 mths FREE BT TV with BT Sport (worth £42), all for £24.99 p/m

It’s not often BT decides to throw in the BT Sport – the very jewel in its crown, no less – in with a broadband deal for nothing. In fact, I can’t remember the last time it did this. And it’s the start of the football season.

Accident? I think not.

All the sport, all the time – sport, sport, sport… and more sport

Don’t ask me about football, I don’t have a clue. All I know is there are feet, balls, goals, money and angry middle-aged men in long coats gesticulating from the touchline.

Nevertheless, one thing I do know is that watching it can be expensive. Not with this deal. If you sign up to BT Sport for the first time before August 15 you will get your whole first year free.

For free, you will be able to watch BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3, BT Sport ESPN alongside their HD versions – BT Sport 1HD, BT Sport 2HD, BT Sport 3HD and BT Sport ESPN HD. That includes 351 UEFA Champions League & UEFA Europa League games broadcast live, plus the Premier League, FA Cup, European Rugby Champions Cup, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), MotoGP and loads more. There’s 42 live Premier League fixtures, up to 24 live FA Cup games and the whole of the Champions League and Europa League tournaments, including every Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton and Celtic match.

Sorry I keep saying ‘for free’ but I find myself somewhat astonished at this, having listened to colleagues discuss remortgaging their house so they can watch favourite team lose over and over again. Football is supposed to be expensive, isn’t it? UFC is supposed to be expensive… apparently not.

You’re going to have to get the broadband, or have it already

To get free BT Sport you’re going to need BT Broadband or BT Infinity (fibre broadband).

If you already have it, great, you’re still eligible for this offer, so long as you’re taking out BT Sport for the first time. Below is a table showing three of the deals currently available from BT (including the one in the title of this blog) that are eligible for free BT Sport – one for each of the speeds BT offers, so which one you pick will really depend on how fast you want to go. Rough rule of thumb is 17Mb (ADSL) broadband is fine for smaller households – you can stream Netflix/iPlayer etc in HD just fine with it.

52Mb Infinity fibre is more capable and good for households of 3-5 frequent internet users. BT’s fastest offering should only really be considered if your household is either very large or very, very internet-intensive.

Other stuff you should know…

This offer ends on 15 August 2017, so you must sign up before then. It requires a 12-month contract.

If you’re already a BT Broadband or BT Infinity customer you’ll have to a) Sign a fresh 12-month contract and b) Never have had BT Sport before if you want to get this deal. New customers need not worry.
