Australian Centre for Robotic Vision claims victory at Amazon Challenge
Amazon has announced the winners of its 2017 Robotics Challenge. A team from the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision claimed victory in the Grand Championship combined task, earning £80,000 in prize money. The challenge comprises pick and stow tasks, requiring a robot to recognise and pick up a certain item in addition to stowing items in certain positions.
The Australian team consisted of researchers, PhD candidates, and undergraduate students who used computer vision, machine learning, and a variety of robotic hardware to complete their tasks faster than other teams. Amazon awarded £270,000 in prize money to competing teams to further the development of robotics and machine learning. The competition was hosted during RoboCup, a robotics competition held in Japan.
