Kollam BSNL tops in new mobile connections
Under the Kerala circle of the BSNL, Kollam district topped in providing new pre-paid BSNL mobile phone connections during 2016-2017. At a press conference here on Saturday, the BSNL Kollam principal general manager V. Rajendran said that more than 1,68,000 new mobile connections were provided last fiscal in the district.
Revenue during 2016-17
The revenue of Kollam BSNL during 2016-2017 touched Rs.
197 crore and totalled a profit of Rs.
39 crore. This was Rs.
11 crore more that the profit registered during the previous fiscal. This year, BSNL will erect ten more mobile phone towers in the district and three micro-towers at LMS Hospital, the mini-civil station, and Atonement Hospital at Kundara.
He said all the 90 telephones exchanges in the district will be upgraded into next generation network (NGN) type exchanges by December.
In order to improve its broadband services, BSNL has relocated 16 broadband equipment from telephone exchanges to tower locations for enabling customers near the relocated locations get improved internet service. During 2016-2017, 10,637 new broadband connections were provided. The district now has about 52,000 broadband connections.
