Neotel’s plans for its wireless network
Neotel is exploring different options for the prime radio frequency spectrum it has, while upgrading its CDMA and WiMAX networks to Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. This is according to Michael Allschwang, the sales and marketing officer at Neotel. “There is a lot of opportunity there, but we have to tread carefully.
Everything you do with spectrum needs regulator approval,” said Allschwang. Neotel has highly-sought-after spectrum in the 1,800MHz band, in the lower-frequency 850MHz band, and the 3,500MHz band which was used for WiMAX. Allschwang said they are finalising discussions with parties which have indicated interest in partnering with Neotel.
However, he could not reveal who Neotel has been in discussions with, as shareholder approval on both sides is still needed for any deal to go through.
“What I can say is that we have received great responses from small and large players, including second-tier ISPs that need to use spectrum to roll out their services.”
