Movie ransom plot foiled – 6 arrested

At least six people accused of being involved in a plot to steal a popular Indian film for ransom have been arrested. TorrentFreak reported[1] that “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” took India by storm and a leak would have been significant. Upon receiving the ransom call, movie company Arka Mediaworks contacted the police.

Thanks to the film being “forensically or otherwise marked”, investigators could track the leaked copy back to a specific theatre.

The attempt to extort the film’s producers follows reports of hackers attempting to do the same with Netflix and Disney properties.

Netflix and Disney refused to pay, and the attackers posted new episodes of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black on The Pirate Bay.
