Frontier expands broadband service to area counties

PARKERSBURG, W.Va.-(WTAP) It’s something rural areas have struggled with for years.

But thanks to a national communications company, more residents have access to higher-speed internet. Frontier Communications says enhanced broadband service is now available to previously unserved customers. That means increased internet access speed for thousands of rural residents, including two area counties.

“In Noble County, Ohio, for example, more than 45% of the total households in that county,” says Communications Manager Andy Malinoski. “The network that was improved there would increase the speeds for those customers.

And in Pleasants County, West Virginia, we improved the speeds for the households in that county, upwards of 3300 homes.”

Frontier says the changes happened during the past 18 months.

Financing came from a Federal Communications Commission fund in effect for six years, and from the company’s own capital program.
