Virgin Media has announced plans for a new broadband service aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, claiming that they will benefit from speeds up to four times faster than its rivals. Voom Fibre, which will be launched on May 2, will offer users standard speeds of 350 megabits per second (mbps). Virgin is taking advantage of big changes in Britain’s broadband market, amid growing dissatisfaction with the performance of BT, the nation’s biggest operator.
Ofcom, the industry watchdog, recently forced BT to spin off Openreach into a legally separate business to allay concerns that it was restricting competition.
