Is your broadband up to speed? Consumer group calls for households to check they are getting what they pay for

More than 12 million households have been left frustrated by poor broadband services, according to research from Which?
A survey of more than 2,000 households from Which? found 46% said they were left frustrated by broadband problems. Based on the UK population, this equates to around 12.5 million households. The consumer group has launched a new campaign called “fix bad broadband” and has made a free speed checker available on its website.
Which? is asking people to use the tool to find out their actual broadband speed, complain if they are not getting what they paid for and help the consumer group to build a picture of the real speeds and problems they are experiencing across the country. Alex Neill, Which? managing director of home services, said: “With millions of us frustrated by bad broadband and stopped from doing the simplest of online tasks, we have launched a new, free tool to help people improve their connection. “There is nothing more annoying than your internet cutting out when you’re streaming your favourite programme, or when you’ve spent ages filling your online shopping basket but your connection is too slow to get you to the checkout.
“Far too many people are experiencing problems with their broadband across the country and we want to help people to fix it.”
