Superfast broadband ‘brings £12.8 million benefits to Wales’ (From …
THE introduction of superfast broadband internet has benefited the Welsh economy to the tune of ?12.8 million, UK Government figures have shown. The statistics also showed 28.7 per cent of homes and businesses in Wales where superfast broadband is available had taken it up, slightly below the UK average of 30.6 per cent. The figures were released as the UK Government announced it would invest a further ?440 million into connecting up to 600,000 more homes and businesses.
Culture secretary Karen Bradley welcomed the figures.
“We have made great progress,” she said. “But there is still more to do.
“Broadband speeds aren’t boosted automatically, it needs people to sign up.
“Increasing take-up is a win-win-win, consumers get a better service, it encourages providers to invest, and when more people sign up in (government subsidised) Broadband Delivery UK areas and money is clawed back to pay for more connections.”
Around 1.5 million homes and businesses in the UK are now connected to superfast broadband.
