Grant funds available for Bute voluntary groups
Community groups and organisations on Bute are being encouraged to apply for third sector grant funding from Argyll and Bute Council.
A total of 14,570 is still available to groups in Bute and Cowal within the 2013-14 financial year, aimed at supporting communities and vulnerable people and helping to kick start new projects and events. So far in 2013-14, 21 voluntary organisations and social enterprises have been awarded funding by the council s Bute and Cowal area committee – 13,715 in April and 6,715 in August. But only three of the applications so far this year have come from groups on Bute, with Beachwatch Bute receiving 1,050, Bute Advice Centre 845 and Bute Agricultural Society an underwrite of 900 – less than 14 per cent of the 20,430 awarded so far.
The committee s chairman, Bute councillor Robert Macintyre, said: Argyll and Bute Council has been awarding grants to local groups and organisations for many years and we all benefit from the tremendous work these groups, organisations and volunteers do in our communities. This year insufficient numbers of groups came forward in the two rounds of funding but we want to make sure groups still have the opportunity to apply, despite the short timescale to spend the funding. I am sure many organisations will appreciate the chance to run a winter event or activity between December and March.
The closing date for the return of completed application forms for a decision at the December meeting of the area committee is Friday, October 25. Any funding allocated must be spent by March 31, 2014, so this is ideal for short-term projects or activities. Applications forms are available from the Community Learning Office, Edward St, Dunoon (tel 01369 707166) or via the Third Sector Grants page on the council s website1.
