Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip

Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO, Lei Jun, announced at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology summit that their next flagship smartphone will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. “Ever since our inception, we have collaborated with Qualcomm,” Jun said. The news followed Qualcomm’s confirmation at the event that it will be launching a new mobile platform — the Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip.

While few details about the platform were announced, Qualcomm said to expect to see the first smartphones based on its new chips later this year. In addition to improved performance, the Snapdragon 845 platform will focus on machine learning and improved imaging. The Snapdragon 845 will be paired with Qualcomm’s X20 LTE modem, offering up to gigabit connectivity on networks that support Category 18 LTE technology.

There are currently 238 million Xiaomi mobile phones powered by Qualcomm processors.
