County council leader Mark Bee was joined by MPs Peter Aldous and Dr Dan Poulter to launch a new website telling everyone when they can expect to be connected to the superfast broadband.

From now anyone can find out when they are due to be connected by logging on to www.betterbroadbandsuffolk.com and entering their postcode to find out when they will be connected.

Every home and business in the county should have access to better broadband by the end of 2015.

Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP Dr Poulter said: This is a very important step for Suffolk and it will be good for those in rural areas to be able to see when they can expect to get the kind of service that people in the large towns like Ipswich already get.

Dr Poulter is well aware of the digital divide because while his constituents in parts of north Ipswich, Kesgrave and Rushmere, already have a good broadband service those in villages and towns further north struggle to get a signal.

The county council has linked up with BT and the government s BDUK agency to improve broadband services across Suffolk at a cost of 40 million.

The exact speed customers will receive will depend on their distance from a BT control box but 85% of properties in Suffolk should get a speed of at least 24mbps, while all properties should get at least 2mbps.
