Camden 'to be first London borough to roll out free Wi-Fi' – uSwitch …

Camden is to launch free public Wi-Fi services in June 2013, becoming the first London borough to do so.

A scheme unveiled back in February will see 17 councils in the capital provide free wireless broadband for people on the move.

And Camden is to be first out of the blocks with free Wi-Fi, with users able to enjoy 30 minutes’ free internet access per day.

Councillor Theo Blackwell, Camden s Cabinet Member for Finance, said the aim is to make the borough “one of the most connected places in the country”.

“This is great news for residents who will be able to access Wi-Fi services in public and open spaces,” he stated.

“It will also be a huge benefit to businesses who will be able to trial new advertising techniques to better target their customers.”

Mr Blackwell said Camden’s “large number of visitors and tourists” will benefit from being able to access online information about events nearby and find information to visit local shops, bars and restaurants.
